Acer K Review & Rating |

It’s relatively low-priced for its ilk, and its bulb shouldn’t ever need replacement, but has a relatively sparse set of connection choices and doesn’t offer anything to set apart from the pack. A key advantage of these hybrids is a very long lamp life, and as they’re LED based, their lamps are mercury free.

Acer’s light engine is typical of the breed, with LED lights to produce red and blue, and laser light shining on a phosphor for green. The lamp’s lifetime in normal mode is given as 20, hours, so it should effectively last the lifetime of the projector.

Acer K specifications

The K has native XGA 1, by resolution, and a rated brightness of 2, lumens. That’s relatively faint for a data projector for its size, weight, and price, although some other of the hybrid projectors have been of similarly low brightness. Xcer white and silver projector measures 3. It comes with a soft ,520 case, but at its weight it’s most suitable for placement on a cart, or even permanent installation. At the front of the lens are a focus ring and a zoom lever.

Connectivity It has a modest set of ports: The image stood up well to a modest amount of ambient light, with some degradation when I introduced a lot of ambient light. In my testing using the DisplayMate suite, data image quality proved suitable for typical business or classroom presentations.

Colors were generally well saturated. I saw yellow k502 at borders between bright and dark areas such as the image’s edgeand also, many grays were tinted slightly greenish, an acfr that persisted through all color modes. Text quality was good, with black-on-white type readable down to the smallest side, and white-on-black text blurred at the smallest size but otherwise readable. Video and Audio Video quality is suitable for showing short clips as part of a presentation.

Rainbow artifacts in the K’s video were more prominent than in a typical DLP projector, and could be distracting to people even moderately sensitive to them. k5520

I also noticed occasional tinting; some scenes appeared overly acr. Audio from the K’s 2-watt internal speaker is fairly soft, but should be adequate for use in a smallish room. The K is 3D capable, though it will only play content from a computer, and you’ll need to buy DLP-link active shutter 3D glasses for each member of your audience. It’s a bit on the heavy side, so you’ll want to use it mostly at a fixed location.

Its data image quality is average, and suitable for typical presentations, while its video quality is good enough for short clips. Though it lacks a fancy port selection, it has enough connectivity choices to satisfy most presenters. Best, its eco-friendly lamp should last the life of the projector, so you shouldn’t have to worry about changing bulbs.
